SecurityKeePassXC
For anyone who wants a local password manager, with no account or server, and does not mind deciding on their own where to back up the file.
What it does.
- store passwords and other sensitive data in encrypted KDBX databases (KeePass-compatible)
- generate passwords and TOTP codes, and type them with Auto-Type
- connect with Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Chromium, Vivaldi, Brave and Tor Browser, with passkey support
- import from CSV, 1Password, Bitwarden, Proton Pass and KeePass1
- use YubiKey/OnlyKey, an SSH agent and the command line (keepassxc-cli)
Systems: Windows 10 and 11 (x64 and ARM64), macOS 12 or later (Apple Silicon; an Intel version is also available) and Linux (Flatpak recommended, AppImage, Snap and your distribution's packages).
What you need.
- Windows 10 or 11; the installer requires the MSVC Redistributable. source for this requirement (opens in a new tab)
- macOS 12 or later for the Apple Silicon download. source for this requirement (opens in a new tab)

Permissions and data.
- Install only from keepassxc.org or your system's official repositories and verify the signature.
- Browser integration has to be turned on in the app and its extension installed.
- All your access lives in a single .kdbx file: back it up, because it is your only store.
Limits and warnings.
- The feature list does not include syncing between devices: you decide how to copy the file.
- The README only lists Windows, macOS and Linux as systems for the app.
- The legacy installer for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 gets no support after version 2.7.12.
- Downloading the entry icons needs an internet connection.
Real cost and cloud.
- Free and open source; no cloud service or account, according to the downloads page.
- Your data lives on your machine: where you copy and back it up is your decision.
- The project publishes a PGP signature and SHA-256 for every download so you can verify what you install.
